The connection and commissioning is equally easy for the two receivers. The image is the MX 04+ but much, much better (at least over HDMI). Who can do without the PVR function should therefore prefer to buy the MX 04+.
Another tip to PVR mode, it is strongly recommended at the list of compatible devices to hold (on the SMART Support page). The first attempt at a Toshiba Store Alu 640GB 3.5 "hard drive went into the pants. The receiver comes with it simply is not clear. The second attempt at a Western Digital Element 500GB 3.5" drive (referred to as compatible) immediately folded. The recording on disk and playback have been folded always super.
The operation of the receiver (eg, favorite lists edit) is really haklig. The manual is as modest as that of the MX 04 + ... you can really forget. Perhaps Smart mercy yes sometime.
So who is frustration-tolerant can buy the receiver quiet, he's okay, but not perfect. I think that the image on a tube TV will be very good, but I have not tested that.

Addendum:
Meanwhile me the receiver dropped out a few times. He reacts in such cases no longer on the remote control and can then only by cycling power are made to work.
Without USB hard drive that had never happened, but the PVR functionality was to buy the receiver for me the real reason ... shame!
What is incidentally also to be noted is that the SMART MX 05 L and the SMART MX 04+ respond to the remote control of the respective other device. So you have to install the units either far away from each other, or put something in front of the receiver if you want to prevent turning off the receiver a mistake and the other with off.

Another addendum:
In my receiver timeshifting is working properly. If the device is not "so long" runs, flaps also timer-controlled recordings.
However, if the pictures are to be held until the next day or even later, then nothing is added - the entries in the timer list are deleted without afterwards something has landed on the hard disk. I'll have to check now whether this is due to my unit, or whether it is a serial fault.
