Remake with Frustfraktor

Final Fantasy IV (Video Game)

Customer Review

With Final Fantasy IV Square Enix delivers another remake of its popular RPG series for the DS. At that time a hit, but can enjoy the classics even today?

Graphics:
For DS-conditions the graphics has been very good, the 3D characters are detailed and the village are beautifully decorated. However, the down side is the dungeon design, because it is almost exclusively made from empty rooms and hallways have been lined up. Although the SNES original did not look better, but that's no reason to make it the remake not better. Entertaining for me are always the empty castles whose furniture budget was obviously exhausted after laying the carpet.

Sound:
The (English) speech output I do not find quite ok, but the soundtrack. However, this is clearly a matter of taste, but I lack in FF IV total of a few striking pieces.

Gameplay:
Here opinions differ. FF IV is a game of the older generation, that is, the difficulty is relatively high. There is no mystery, except perhaps the question "Where do I have now?" or "How do I defeat the next boss?". Level up is the norm and it fails in a (Boss) fight you will be thrown back to the last save point. Although the save points are usually fair to be found directly in front of boss battles, but one must (mostly) escalating cutscenes view one more time before the fighting. Abortable only the videos, but not conversations. In addition, it is not uncommon that an opponent equal destroys the whole group in the first round - or reverses an assault with a deadly attack. Something you do without solution only at the second attempt. Unfair.
In short: you need sit still and will at the level up on itself endure allow - and even some fights are bock difficult because some battle results "fixed" and not be calculated - an enemy attack as the one's HP simply reduces times to 1, no ifs and buts. Good old times.

Story:
Another remnant of the old days with a huge amount of RPG clichés, including the no longer looking for innovative elemental crystals. In addition, FF IV is known for its illogical death. Throughout the story dies of one or other important character, and although it is even equipped with a lot of healing and resurrection spells, no one comes up with the idea to apply them once.

Conclusion:
Unquestionably, Final Fantasy IV DS is a good remake. But unfortunately I found Final Fantasy IV as one of the weaker parts in the series since also helps no good remake. From the technical side, it is ok, but the difficulty draws a shoes off. Who wants to die for properly in a game that can do here. If you want only incidentally have some fun without frustration, had better access to the simpler RPGs today.
