All functions should also offer the new router and of course the higher speed of VDSL port. At first I was planning to buy the latest top model of AVM, the Fritz box 7490. This has all the features of the Fritz box 7270 and also a higher wireless transfer speed. On the Fritz box 7360 I became aware of, because it has lower power consumption than the 7490 - in a device that is always on, a not to be underestimated advantage. Therefore, it offers "only" the same wireless speed as the previously used 7270 and it has no internal memory, which is necessary for answering machine and fax. The lack of memory can be upgraded with a USB flash drive and so I decided to first try out the 7360 and use an available USB memory stick.
The commissioning of the new Fritz box 7360 took less than 5 minutes. Previously, the settings of the old Fritz box via the web interface of the Fritz box were secured to a notebook. Then the old Fritz box was turned off, reconnected the DSL cable from the old Fritz box to the new Fritz box, the new Fritz box connected and switched on via a LAN cable to the notebook. After logging on to the web interface of the new Fritz box the backup file of the old Fritz box was recorded. Then everything worked as usual. Any computer could be connected to the Fritz box without any additional settings. The phones were working as usual. Answering machines and fax function were operational. I had to enable the use of USB memory sticks. The memory stick is displayed in the usage monitor the Fritz box with 16%, which corresponds to a power consumption of less than 0.5W.
The WLAN range of the Fritz box 7360 is better than that of 7270. At all distances the wireless transmission rate is higher than before. The compatibility with Apple computers is better than the old Fritz box. Airplay can now also use 300MBit WLAN, an eternal problem with the old 7270th
Conclusion: Everything works as before, saving 60 euros compared to the Fritz box 7490 and in addition a few watts power consumption.
