On this CD music tracks are played to texts of medieval minstrels on instruments of the Middle Ages. The Manes ash Liederhandschrift narrated texts and illustrations (no likeness) a number of important minstrels, but unfortunately not the corresponding notes. Because some of the elements have been passed with grades in other manuscripts or could be reconstructed, it is possible the musical settings to hear again today. In addition to anonymous songs include songs of Walther von der Vogelweide, Dietmar von Aist, Bligger of Steinach, Neidhart von Reuenthal and Tanhuser (Tannhäuser) included. The sound of the songs is completely different from Gregorian church music or medieval folklore, but sounds very authentic, thanks to the instruments used. In the enclosed booklet a short preface to Manesse's song manuscript itself and an introduction to each piece of music in English and German are included. The Middle High German lyrics are reprinted in full. I recommend this CD to all friends of the Manesse's song manuscript who want to enjoy their songs in addition to the texts and illuminations the acoustics, and all medieval enthusiasts who want to hear most authentic music of the Middle Ages.
