Natasha SOLOMONS takes us into the story of Elise, a young Jewish girl forced by her family, a writer and a singer Father Mother quite bohemian, to leave Austria to immigrate to England. That is under duress she will write to request a domestic space being sure she will hate this new country. But although it encounters some difficulties with the language and living in a large property where the rules have not changed for hundreds of years she'll meet wonderful people, welcoming, fall in love, suffer from the lack of his family and pains of war. Thanks to a very pleasant writing mixing present and past we cross Elise with this rather dark period of our history and as it we learn to love this English countryside by the sea, tormented and rainy inhabited by strong and worthies. Beautiful story of life, love and courage.
