Previously I had a DVD recorder Samsung DVD-SH895. Unfortunately I could only record analog to the device in the cable television service.
That's why I wanted my recorder renew contemporary digitally and can record HD.
I had looked at devices from LG, Panasonic and Samsung.
Ultimately, I decided for the Samsung BD-F8900, as he has commanded in my view, the best value for money. In addition I run the device to a Samsung TV and can thus use the BD Wise function works only in combinations of Samsung devices.
The BD-F8900 itself is meticulously crafted and makes a high quality impression. All equipment pages (except back - and bottom) are in black piano lacquer design.
But the appearance is not everything. Should work the device also.
Unfortunately, I had problems with the first two devices.
Timer settings have been arbitrarily canceled by the device. On the disk there was nothing from these recordings. After contacting Samsung, I was advised to leave the respective device dealer replace cable.
After the second set I had initially fed up and decided to go for a unit of Panasonic. Unfortunately, me at the Panasonic Value unconvinced. The unit had less equipment and was about 90.00 euros more expensive than the Samsung. There were also communication problems between my Samsung TV and the recorder of Panasonic.
So I decided to yet again for the Samsung BD-F8900.
Now I have the third Samsung recorder and it works so far.
Sure, he's not 100% perfect and has its weaknesses, but the Panasonic had.
The automatic station search with Samsung functioned reliably and quickly. Man is guided step by step through the installation.
Somewhat more complicated is the sort channel for customization and the creation of favorites lists. There are two possibilities. You can sort the channels within the device and create favorite lists, or you can do all on your PC.
Here one has to export on a USB stick the channel list first. By ChanSort_2013-12-22 program (can be found on the Web) can be sorted transmitter and Fav.Listen quickly and easily as desired. Then save the amended lists on the USB stick and import them back to the device. Done.
Some features are awkward to reach with Samsung a bit about the menu. So to get, for example, to his TV recordings only on the Home Menu. There you have to click through more than five menu items until you reach its desired TV recording and play and can edit.
Recording Scheduler: You can program a recording manually or via the EPG. When programming via EPG beginning and end and the name of the program are copied exactly. An on-and-off delay must be entered manually. Staying with these times within 10 minutes each retained even the mission name. Exceeding 10 minutes each disappears the name of the program. After recording this can also be entered again manually.
The editing is a bit strange, but when it has once get the hang of, then has this been going. In the editing function you delete the possibility Partially, parts, or remove.
If you want to cut the beginning and end of a movie, I recommend the SHARE function.
Just the pre-and post from the actual film disconnect and then delete the relevant parts removal. One has only to check that the correct part is removed, because after splitting bear all separated parts the same name as the actual film.
The Partial Delete function is suitable for the cutting function at the beginning and the end is not so good.
The picture and sound from the BD-F8900 is very good.
The device is not 100% perfect, but acceptable for the price. But what is to be 100% perfect. Perhaps we expect in this day and age is often a little too much perfection.
Even we humans are not 100% perfect, how can it then be the devices that are designed and built by people?

Unfortunately I have to add my review above for the worse.
Now that I have since the beginning of January 2014 until yesterday, had four devices of this sort, I have now but a clean break pulled.
All four devices showed the same mistakes after a relatively short time. Arbitrary demolition of a timer event with the error message, and repeatedly getting stuck (in professional circles also known as hanging), especially after Editing TV recordings.
Since I have worked themselves until retirement four years ago in the UE-industry, I am here not as incapable as perhaps some might think.
Certainly now I no longer have the opportunity to examine the device through its paces, but what is delivered here is not just the cream. I suspect that the error occurring not only be due to the firmware. Closer I would not comment at this point.
Visually, the part is really great, but what good is a good appearance when the inner life does not work reliably.
