Shhh ... Death tells ...

This book was very long in my wish list. I had put there without knowing much about the story, I wanted to read it because of the title (yeah, I'm a girl, I do what I want and how I want) and after reading the subtitle "When Death tells you a story you have any interest in listening to" I clearly had no choice!
I had never read a novel like this. The style of narration is incredibly well found, and the tone is perfect. One would quickly fall into the ultra dramatic, but this is not the case. A few touches of humor are deftly lighten the mood of this story.

It is Death who tells a story. This character that the author has built is ultimately the most human of all account. This Death loves living and treats them kindly, tenderness and compassion. This craft made against it destabilizes the heart and makes it often unhappy. It focuses on some cores in certain live like the little Liesel she will meet several times and she will follow the story.

This novel is a story of life and death, love and hate.

Lifestyle, because despite all the setbacks, the insurmountable obstacles, life takes over. Max, a young Jew that Liesel adoptive family will hide no longer expect anything from life than his death, and yet ...

A story of death, and all the consequences it can have on life when you lose a loved one, and may ultimately bring the beginning of something else. Liesel will discover Book Thief following the death of his little brother ...

A love story, as in the worst moments of life, when we expected nothing, he is there, a glimmer, a little hope at the end of this dark tunnel. Liesel meet paternal love with his "Dad" adopted, the person she loves most in the world and that will change his life ...

A history of hatred, anger, incomprehension, with an urge to destroy, to revolt. Max will think about to fight Hitler during boxing matches, and Rudy him leave to kill him one day ...

Therefore a strong story, and touching, that takes us into the life of a German family under Nazi Germany.

However, there is a big downside: Death, in his story, we made big spoiler without stop! So we know who is going to die and when ... It really embarrassed in my reading because I was so attached to the characters that knowing this, I just wanted to go on.

But I took my courage in both hands (and a packet of tissues) and I left this reading bruised heart and at the same time filled with love. The characters have touched me, moved me, have upset me.

I think back to Max, so sorry and ashamed to be this burden, this constant danger to the adoptive family Liesel. I think back to Rudy, best friend and lover of Liesel, who has waited all his life to finally have this kiss as he wanted. I also think of Dad, this brave and courageous man who will rebel against injustice at the risk of his own life, which will give all he has, even if he has nothing by simple generosity of heart.

This book will long remain with me, you know, like an old friend whom you think sometimes with nostalgia ...
It is a deeply moving novel, you will understand, but sometimes give you completely unexpectedly, a tender smile.
