Making Movies (Audio CD)

Customer Review

The Straits presented themselves for their 3rd CD / LP retreaded, especially the loan from Springsteen's E-Street Band keyboardist Roy Bittan provides more variety and freshness in the sound. Even after 20 years, this is for me the most emotional Dire Straits CD, mainly thanks to the classic "Romeo and Juliet", but also "hand in hand", "Expresso Love" and the epic "Tunnel of Love" are short stories or better short films ("movies" just) about love. Striking is the tendency to relatively long pieces. On the original LP were only 3 pieces on the first page, which then downright shocked me when buying, but at first hearing it was of course already reconciled, because the Straits sounded completely new, with a lot more "oomph" and even with keyboards, which the sound lent a whole new flavor and from this album yes, then this always remained. Two songs fall out something: "Solid Rock", which makes its name and much harder comes as the other pieces and the cabaret-esque "Les Boys", a tribute to the Munich gay scene. Not the only reminiscence of Mark Knopfler in Germany, as we know, because on his later solo album "Golden Heart" is the song "Rüdiger", a fanatical supporter of Germany.
Overall, a very mature one hand, on the other hand very innovative album which is undoubtedly one of the top 3 of eternal Dire Straits leaderboard.
