With this album I was about 4 months ago to Michael Jackson. Since I only classical and inclined metal / rock music'm actually, I never interested me so far for his music. My sudden "interest" did not develop because of its only recent death, but because I have copied from a buddy 2/3 years back the albums Thriller and Bad on my laptop and one evening now could not decide what I wanted to hear. And then I saw the Michael Jackson folder and tried Thriller. I knew until then pretty much nothing about him (except what everyone knows halt, including just the many lies ...) not to mention that this is the most successful album of all time. The only song I knew so far from him was Billie Jean! :-) After the first run I was not overly impressed nor disappointed, but somehow the album made me go and I heard it the next day again and again until it suddenly something clicked and I realized how great this music is yet.
In short, in the next few days / weeks I bought in record time, all albums and DVDs from him, as I quickly went to music (compared to other genres) ear. However, the real reason was that I did with Michael Jackson found another of my now 8 big favorite musicians / bands (I, however, only gradually realized). I was just fascinated by everything - his songs, his singing, his dancing style, his videos, his live performance, his shows, and so (I was dancing before never interested!) (King Of Music videos!). But above all, made me the man Michael Jackson fascinated and I realized fairly soon realized that he was either the biggest hypocrite of history, or that probably never seen such a good-hearted man was pelted with so much filth and lies as he! I could hardly believe it with each other (good) documentation (Private Home Movies, The Footage You Were Never Meant To See ...) or any other book (Moonwalk, Dancing The Dream ...), how many lies about him were disseminated and partly (say still largely up to today in the great mass.
Now to the music ... for me it is divided into 3/3 - the last (MMN the "weakest") can finish the album so slowly, with me especially "The Lady Of My Life" like. The first third of guests staying at the great opener "Wanna Be Startin 'Somethin'" (live in twice the speed just madness!), A beautiful duet with Paul McCartney ("The Girl Is Mine") and in the middle with no less importance seeds, but often under-appreciated well "Baby Be Mine". However, the final third, which represents the heart of the album is, again some higher level of quality and is reflected with absolute 3 "Giant Hits"! "Thriller", which particularly still gaining strength through the ingenious video, convinced culminates particularly by the catchy chorus and his little dark (at least for Michaels relationships ;-)) sentiment that in Vincent Prices' spoken words. "Beat It" is probably the best rock song that Michael has ever written. An excellent guitar riff through the whole song, and with the wonderful solo by Eddie Van Halen of the rock song is perfect. Again, you realize (as so often) how versatile was Michael's voice and that they like here may well convince in a slightly more aggressive variant! But "Billie Jean" is very special ... I do not know exactly how to describe this song, but it has everything they need for a worldwide hit. And even if many of his other songs are also big hits, "Billie Jean" is probably the greatest of all! This song is simply much less never boring to move to skipping one. This song has it something extraordinary, which have only a few songs (such as also We Are The Champions by Queen). And the very fact that Michael with his incredible Live Perfomance the one thing sets it justify its millennium star status because it one of the few modern times (The Beatles, Elvis ...) according to geniuses like Beethoven, Chopin etc. definitely deserved pause has! In summary, this album is a masterpiece, but that certain something (which average 3 songs), in comparison to many others, that it has finally made the most successful album of all time. For me personally, it is along with "Dangerous" my favorite album of Michael, and I (not "Invicible") particularly find any of his other albums much weaker - a CD of Michael Jackson is in music at any time for the highest quality, whether now in 1979 or 2001 does not matter!
Now for this special version: This thriller publication (CD + DVD, with glossy slipcase) is mMn the far most beautiful that there is. I know exactly how I have looked at only the glossy surface in changing light first for a few minutes after the removal of the film ... ;-) Even the booklet provides everything you could wish for - all Lyrics, precise information on photographs, pictures (of which I particularly the caricature drawn by Michael on "The Girl Is Mine" like), as well as a few personal lines of thanks to all the fans of Michael. The CD offers the album even bonus tracks; while from the Thriller period and a Voice-Over Session of Vincent Price certainly something can begin with an unreleased song ("For All Time"), I find the rest of the remixes totally superfluous or out of place. Since even cover very rarely come to the quality of an original, remixes are mostly really just Verschandelungen the magnificent se songs. (That is why for me as "Blood On The Dancefloor" also per se only an EP instead of an album because besides the 5 new songs from Michael just rubbish is it.) But that soured me of course, not the joy of the album, because it finally shut down at the end of the album and can again start from scratch. The additional DVD also made me very happy because it is the three majestic Video clips of the album (Thriller, Billie Jean, Beat It) and his first solo live performance (of let him be, inter alia, a legend) of the Motown 25 concert. Now, if it would have been with the Making Of of the then erschienenem video's it perfectly ...
... But even without the making of this CD / DVD version of a wonderful special edition, which is the status of the album definitely meet! Thus, I can highly recommend both this every album, and this special edition - whether newcomer or a longtime fan! All in all I'm extremely grateful for Michael this album. Even if he is no longer with us, his great music lives on forever!
