Customer Review

Debut albums often have something magical about it, and just as it is with the very first album of WASP, which was released in August 1984. So rampant, shocking, rowdy and boisterous should WASP - Blackie Lawless although still published many excellent albums - never again. Even then, singer and bassist Blackie Lawless still responsible for all the songs, but still WASP appeared as a unit, as a nasty heavy metal pack, which set out to teach the common society fear.

The rock music of WASP is hard and rough, singer Blackie Lawless sounds like a rattling, rusty chainsaw, the heavy guitars cut like a circular saw through metal, and the simple but very massive drumming sounds as if you throw reinforced concrete blocks at broken car wrecks would. Blackie was quite right when he said, with drummer Tony Richards WASP lost some of its aura, because Geklöppel carries not only an essential contribution, but forms a striking centerpiece in WASP sound. Presumably, however, Blackie was not referring to his testimony here on the music of WASP itself.

Despite harsh riffs and simple, massive rock and roll rhythms, the metallic music of WASP is still melodic, and already disclosed Blackie's songwriting talent. The songs are aggressive and impetuous, sometimes even rather gloomy, but despite all the rawness very anthemic, and invite you to quickly mitkrächzen. First and foremost, of course, the big "hit" of the album, the fleet, tremendous "I Wanna Be Somebody", the double-bass steamroller "LOVE Machine", the rumbling "On Your Knees", and the nasty motorcycle anthem "Hellion ". The simple but effective and bumpy ballad Sleeping (In The Fire) conveys a slightly different, macabre and sinister image of WASP, in which can be inserted also hard but melodic songs like "Tormentor" and "The Tortue Never Stops".

The original release of the album was at the direction of Capitol Records from the controversial song "Animal (Fuck Like A Beast)". A circumstance which ausbügelte the republication, and next to it nor the B-side of "Animal" single, the rough, fast and dreary "Show No Mercy" and the Rolling Stones, the B-side of "School Daze" single, -Cover "Paint It Black", mitaufnahm. All 3 songs analyzed in my opinion, the album even more significantly on, they belong to a certain extent.

Although the debut album is known under the title "WASP", is amusingly sometime, I noticed that the album has a total of three different titles: I drive around at home even vinyl pressings with the titles "Winged Assassins" and "I Wanna Be Somebody". The debut album of WASP is a full-blooded, wild, standing in flames piece of hard metal and rock music that is indeed dominated by just held songwriting, but has no weaknesses and in this hellish form knows no truly comparable music.
