Frodo side, there is the famous Gollum guide.
Side Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli, we must save Merry and Pippin. The highlight of this fabulous quest: the meeting with the Rohirrim, the people of horse trainers.

The characters are always so amazing, hard to turn away from their epics ...
Note that the book is MUCH BETTER than the film, especially in all the passages with Frodo (deadly dull in the movie, when viewed whining fours, while it is excellent and charismatic in the book).
A must read!
