Let's call it simply the fact that guys from Iowa are back and cut as brilliant as pure as they were accustomed. Corey Taylor has his vocal range on this album places changed what you hear extremely at The Negative One. They cut back a brutal blast around the ears as Sarcastrophe, Skeptic or Lech. True genius and typical Slipknot is the track Custer, distraught ... but wahnsinng still cool.
I do not understand these Slipknot / Stone Sour comparison, every time a new album is released you have to pull these unnecessary comparisons. Slipknot is Slipknot and Stone Sour Stone Sour is. A singer is the solo traveling has the chronic problem that, some parts / choruses listen in any other band like his regular band. So it is here, too, although the songs are like Killpop awesome and that makes this band indeed look. I hear Slipknot also because of the brilliant ballads or quieter songs, if they would only purely would bludgeon me too boring and too crass especially because Corey Taylor is a super singer.
Conclusion: The new album is despite the departure of Joey Jordison and the tragic death of Paul Gray on a very high level. It has everything a top album needs, brutal songs ... ballads and a mixture of both. The only thing the bright sound of the drums is personally bothers me a little, but not used to the band for the first time, too.
