For a while I've been looking for a new camera to replace my long outdated model. My requirements for the new camera were good pictures, fast response time, pretty much optical zoom as well as small size and weight. Theoretically, I would have been well served by a small SLR, which had me but still too bulky and heavy, and constantly I did not want to change lenses as a hobby photographer now. After thorough research and price comparison, the Coolpix came into the closer selection s9400. After much deliberation, I decided to order them a try. They may return yes if nothing is yet. The first impression was very positive: it is small, light, fits comfortably in your hand and has a very attractive design. When you turn on me at first annoyed the menu sounds, but could be easily issue immediately because the menu has an extremely intuitive. Then I clicked my way through the menu and gives me an overview of what the camera because everything can be so. In particular, the large number of scene modes is positive on (besides the known programs there are even programs for food, museums, various night programs ...). A handful of functions were not immediately understand entirely, such as the shooting of 3D images. However, the accompanying manual contains only the basics. Nikon has luckily on its website all manuals for download. Razed: It contains detailed information on all functions, which are very easy to find thanks to full-text search. But now to the more interesting part: the pictures (and videos). I have just a few pictures with various settings made: Macro, Panorama, Zoom. Autofocus makes mostly really good work, rarely had to start fresh anfokussieren. The images are quite sharp and the color fidelity is convincing. At dusk and at night the little girl does a great job, which in some images already found a recharger blue cast. In wildlife park I was particularly impressed by the strong push. It Geland with eg, a standing in about 100 meters distance ram, from a faucet falling drop drinking, take pictures easily. In the photos you can even see the individual drops of water fall. On the screen, although occurs slight image noise, but I can see over it etrost away. My favorite "Models" are my parrots and after they had overcome their initial shyness before the camera, I was able to make wunerbare recordings. very helpful is the continuous shooting mode here. The only thing that bothers me here is the high storage time, but is probably also due to the used SDHC card (Class 4). As annoying I found the position of the flash. The works on exactly where I normally hold the camera with my left index finger. But it can get used to yes. Yesterday, the camera then hung on the store and became unresponsive. She had also not off, so I had to remove the battery briefly. Since then she is working again without any problems. I'll see if these Macke persists and possibly correct my vote. But may also be because I was a little impatient because of the described high storage time;)
CONCLUSION: For the price a really great camera that meets all my criticisms. Therefore, highly recommended if you have similar criticisms of a compact camera.
