First of all: who wants out of a not so anschpruchvollen user of a good and fast router view to easily share files on the network or media stream content, I'd give the router 5 Stars.
I walk in my assessment is no longer so in the readings as wireless range or the speed on the LAN or WLAN on, this has been tested extensively here already.
What I find very good on the router:
- The router is easy to use and quick to set up
- There is a nice app for the smartphone, so you can switch the guest WLAN on and off, user lock, etc.
- It can be connected by the then thanks to DLNA content can be streamed thanks 2 USB ports USB hard drives and / or USB sticks. The memory can be made available for backups or for exchange in the network
- The WLAN range is very good
- Speeds via LAN and WLAN are also very good
- The router has neatly with its dual-core 1 Ghz processor Power
- Wireless AC
- The support by Netgear! I had problems with a disk I plugged into the USB 3.0 port. The router has ejected the disk for about a month and over again or they no longer appeared to me and was no longer accessible. I then sent an email to Netgear and a few days later someone from Netgear has contacted me and asked whether the time can view a technician. (Unfortunately, I had made a DD-WRT on it but the problem was probably due to the hard disk)
Of course there is also something which I did not like so much:
- The router consumes relatively much current (I mean it was about 10W) to give here but must not forget that there already is almost a PC with 1GHz dual-core CPU ..
- I wanted to set up the DLNA Media Server a little better, for example, it should only be scanned data that are in the order media. Unfortunately, only the entire hard drive, he scanned.
- The network share folder on the hard disk can not configure more precisely. It should for example only person A Folder A, Person B have access to folder B and person C in folder A and B, unfortunately, did not. Either you could make everything visible to everyone or you have access only to the Administrator password on the folder
The negative points can be ironed out, however, with DD-WRT and you have with DD-WRT still far from more settings.
I give it 4 stars because Netgear router in my opinion, could be even more sophisticated software.
With DD-WRT can indeed adjust much but if you are DD-WRT beginner, you have to read a lot and try to everything so far is as it should be.
