Sound
The sound is superb and is unbeatable in this price range with safety. The stage presentation is graded wide and deep. A dynamic reproduction with vibrant middle, brilliant highs and deep bass is quite an experience. Was it only to the sound, the device would receive the full 5 stars. The cross-class, superior reproduction characteristics achieved the unit's CD drive and over the network and over the Internet radio alike. A similar playback quality, I only know of the devices cost the double or triple. Here the player makes no weaknesses.
Service
Operation Geling well via the remote control and on the device itself. The display is easy to read even in 3 feet away. The best operation goes but with the Onkyo App. I have connected a hard disk with uncompressed music mainly on the router and on my Tablet superimposed abundant music. Access to these files turns out, on the app, very easy and it does not matter from where the music is playing, the operation is very easy. But even using the remote control to access the device connected to the router hard drive well and clearly. Fact: Man (n) must not be a network specialist, to cope with the set up and use. The operation of the radio is just as simple and the sound is stunning. Incidentally, the playback via the rear USB port is also impeccable. The front USB port is mainly dedicated to Apple devices, as I have no, I have to stay here a guilty vote.
Negatives
Unfortunately always clacks 2x a relay when pressed by external access from a title on, or when playback is interrupted by coils. The same with the radio, title or channel change = 2x clack of relays. Cause is when playback is paused, the player interprets this as loss of source and the relay disconnects. On request from the Onkyo Support that is normal and unavoidable. I know because the player was bypassed, unfortunately the sound not even nearly as good or cost you two or three times. But really bothers the click? Everyone needs to decide for itself, does not bother me really. Especially since the play from the radio or hard drive that is not broken, do not lead to clunk. the CD player is not incidentally affected by the clacking of the relay.
The failure of the relay, at least when a good relay is installed is not to be feared in frequent use. At work I am responsible for, inter alia, water plants, one of which is in operation since 1998 and still has a control relay. These relays have performed tens of thousands of circuits to date, and none has been replaced. Installed are industrial relays, so nothing special. Decisive for the shelf life of a relay is the electrical load, is this high, there is a sparking when connecting and disconnecting. The electrical load when the player is naturally low, therefore can be expected with a high service life of the relay.
Conclusion
The device is well worth the money. The sound is truly breathtaking! I would buy it again.
