"My name is Henri Villon and am the sole captain of the wonder called Déchronologue" and is posed the basis of this new book by a French author Stéphane Beauverger discovered by Volta with his Chromozone trilogy. Here, however, post-apocalyptic future point, up to filibustering, to collisions ... and temporal games!

The French Captain Henri Villon is a hardened and seasoned pirate who travels the seas of the Caribbean in the seventeenth century. By a combination of circumstances, it will be to meet in Spanish jails, some Arcadio. This Mayan Indian will make him discover his gods, that may well be the cause of the emergence of these famous maravillas, tools and weapons from another time and terribly effective besides these strange metal discs that can make an exotic and hear loud music ... Soon he finds himself in a conflict that is beyond comprehension and disrupting hourglass until time aboard his wonderful ship, Déchronologue, equipped with cannons spitting seconds and minutes . Besides the eye placed on marine observers of these strange and Burbujas in their so-called Tuareg ...
The book is divided into 25 chapters to tell the misadventures of Captain Villon and successive crews. The author has also taken great care to arrange the order of its chapters. For, like the temporal storms that ravage the Caribbean, the story was fragmented and reorganized to make transpire, even in the construction of the story, the adventures through time of the seamen signed on Déchronologue. The effect is not only successful but also cleverly calculated, leaving enough shadows to give the reader want to know what happened (or the past, choose) while giving enough details to avoid losing definitively its audience along the way. We are not at the deconstruction / reconstruction of Vélum: the book of every hour of Hal Duncan but the pattern of the process is found to be the same, infiltrating nature of the plot into the story structure.

So we plunged right in the seventeenth century between hardened sailors, captains rogues both Spanish and French, and Mayans in full renaissance. Which commands respect from the outset, the vocabulary and style borrowed by Beauverger a scholarly work which is a second brilliant author's success since from the first sentences, we are caught in this time alongside mouths weathered and macabre that filibusters of characters.
Besides characters very colorful. One thinks of course the captain Villon whose psychology is screened by the pen of the writer, fascinating as much as pathetic. But we think also and especially at this constellation of minor figures: the Baptist, the master gunner Déchronologue, Severus, the mysterious Tuareg rejected by his peers, but especially Féfé of Dieppe, a buccaneer exotic and strange language that we will quickly become friendly. As other characters might be mentioned, but just know that Stéphane Beauverger erects sometimes endearing portraits sometimes disgusting with ever constant accuracy.

Immersed in a working and delicious style, the reader might forget history. But it is very well paced and conducted flirting between a lot of fantasy and a big touch of SF the best effect. This button is provided by the strange temporal disturbances that mark the story and seem rejected maravillas and fleets of another age as easily they shave entire cities. There is no question here reveal the cleverly designed puzzle by the author, but he never disappoints our expectations until last chapter surprisingly poignant.
Of course, there is nothing revolutionary about this book but I must admit that the whole is truly effective and frankly well led.

Finally, also recall the documentation work shot by the author and it lists at the end of the book. This is also an asset for the account, which will gain credibility and depth giving a real stamp of authenticity for a history of the seventeenth century between the wakes of Spanish fleets, English and French.

Finally, if the wait was long, it was worth very much instantly. The Déchronologue is an excellently written book, conceived and conducted. Stéphane Beauverger is surely a great discovery brought to us by the excellent editions of the Volta, which can expect the next book with great impatience .. If you like unusual fantasy, buccaneering and Tafia, if you like time frames and Collisions, this book is for you. More simply, if you love excellent entertainment literature cleverly thought and documented, it is no longer to wait. Embark with Captain Villon, and take part in the adventure Dead Christ!
