The appeal of monotony

It makes no sense to judge Anika's voice on this album by normal standards, because it sounds so monotonous, so lifeless and lost, sometimes listless, dissonant and so far away that you can not be quite sure whether Geoff Barrow's protégé places simply can sing arbitrarily in front of him and then just as arbitrary a song about places - regardless of rhythm and mood.

But precisely because of Geoff Barrow and Anika form on this album a fascinating unit: The songs, all of them (barely recognizable) covers from the 60s / 70s were stripped from Barrow to minimalist, postpunkige electrical / Dubversionen and Anika atonal organ grinder is the perfect complement the supercooled beats - in the broadest sense, although vocal, but so emotionless that it is rather the continuation of the human clear electronic sounds.
