Customer Review

"The Best of Joe Cocker" (one of several compilations with this title) was the first official greatest hits CD after his comeback '82 and included in 74 minutes running time Joe Cocker's most important single and album tracks from the years 1982 to 1992, starting with his comeback hit, the Jennifer Warnes duet Up Where We Belong, and the theme song of the '84er episode album, "Civilized Man". We continued with the Randy Newman song You can leave your hat on, who became famous through the strip scene in "9 1/2 Weeks", and with the single edit of Shelter me and a remix of Do not You Love me anymore (all three of "COCKER" ('86)). Now that you're gone (5:13) was also shortened by one minute (4:17).

With "Unchain My Heart" 's were of course the' 87er title track, this time in the '90's version "subtitled' '91 Remix. The teaser of "One Night of Sin" ('89), When the Night Comes, appears here - and only here! - In the "dry" and to the guitar solo from 4:45 to 3:57 trimmed '92 Remix! This version is to be the only mistake on the CD, so much time has, and space was enough.

Probably for promotional reasons, the hit rate increases towards the end of the early nineties: may course the title song of ''91 album, "Night Calls", not missing. Elton John Do not Let the Sun go down on me and I can hear the River (4:47, here as with Edit 3:38) followed, as well as songs from the '92 'remake of "Night Calls", especially ( All I Know) Feels like forever, Sorry Seems to Be the Hardest Word, Now that the Magic has gone and When A Woman Cries.

The grandiose '89 live version of With A Little Help from my Friends (from "Cocker LIVE!") Is a grand finale. Beautiful sampler over the first 10 Island- / Capitol Years by Joe Cocker's comeback in the early eighties.
