I dive with pleasure in the nearby universe characters of Jane Austen, and the atmosphere of England in the early 19th century. However, I must admit that the author has failed to embark fully in its history. Indeed, I was disturbed by several things.
I enjoyed browsing in the heart of the social life of London, and look a little criticism of the English atmosphere of the late 19th century. Small plots and events that revolve around and intervene romance really pleased me. In addition, Elizabeth Aston writing is fluid and enjoyable.
Eliza's character is a bit like her godmother Elizabeth Darcy. This is a young twenty year old woman with no great beauty, but has lots of charm. It also has a very critical mind, she is smart and does not want to let walk all over. Eliza, however, knows how to hold his tongue and to be discreet, to get what she wants.
I want a little to the author for having "copied" the Elizabeth and Darcy dating scene in Pride and Prejudice, to paste the couple Eliza / Bruton (I can not tell you more, otherwise mess things up too). It's the same for some of his characters, which reflect those of Jane Austen.
I regret that the romance between Eliza and Bruton intervene so late and so quickly in the story. If one feels that Bruton is attracted Eliza, we hardly guess the side of the young woman. I wished that things are a little more developed over the narrative. Especially the back cover us implies that the meeting between Eliza and Bruton will be decisive. In the end, the relationship between the main characters is not mature enough in my opinion.
As for the secondary characters, I loved finding Camilla, a daughter of the original couple Darcy, I had already met in "The Adventures of Miss Alethea Darcy." I also greatly appreciated Mr Portal and Mrs Rowan, friends Camilla Wytton, which bring a touch of humor.
In conclusion, my opinion is somewhat mixed on this book. I have not misjudged things, but I was disappointed by others. In the end, the book has a small heated rear taste, it's a shame. I can not tell whether the fans of Jane Austen will be won or not, I think it all depends on the feelings of each. I suggest you make your own opinion (you read Pride and Prejudice or not for that matter).
