Blue Train on staff consists of sizes. Besides Coltrane (tenor sax) musicians are Kenny Drew on piano, Philly Joe Jones on drums (all thirty three) and Young Lee Morgan (19 years old) on trumpet, Curtis Fuller (22 years old) on trombone, Paul Chambers (22 years old) on bass. The group met 15 September 1957 sounds good, full of vitality and tone. Coltrane's solo intro after a legend on Blue Train is remarkable. Lee Morgan also book us prolix solos. The most interesting and moving piece in my opinion is the composition of Coltrane's "Moment's Notice". Coltrane's solo is masterful. Beautiful version of the ballad "I'm old fashioned." Finally to complete another Coltrane composition "Lazy Bird" which starts on a flying under the leadership of Lee Morgan. Two alternates takes complete this album, a classic. The 1957 disc truly marks the flight of Trane, although we are still far altitudes and peaks a few years later on his Impulse recordings. Highly recommended.
The same rhythm section recorded a year earlier truly mastered disc under the authority of Kenny Drew (Kenny Drew Trio or The Kenny Drew Trio).
