Hardly any band has been so important for the Heavy Metal in its present form as Slayer. Thrash beads as Reign In Blood, Hell Awaits or South of Heaven should know (or need to) at any decent metalhead. Slayer stood for tough, relentless and (because of the satanic-inspired lyrics) Metal controversial and have long been considered the toughest band ever. Today legends the four Californians have long been in the scene, and not for nothing is at all possible Metal Events "Slayer!" roared.
Of course a band like Slayer has once laid a debut album and just as natural that on this was to be heard not the sound for which the band later achieved worldwide fame reaped is. Because at that time, 1983, just a few months after Metallica defined with "Kill 'em All" Thrash Metal, the band played a style that was heavily influenced by bands like Venom, Judas Priest and Iron Maiden. Their distinctive sound if you find later, still has her debut're several on what constitutes Slayer. Hard staccato riffs straightes Knüppeldrumming and the wild guitar solos. Much harder and a track faster than Metallica Slayer act here. The variety suffers second to none. A Hammerriff chasing the next, and Dave Lombardo leaves even the fastest punk look old. Quite great classics that are played even today regularly at concerts, are "The Antichrist", "Die by the Sword" and "Black Magic" but actually you could list every song on this record because a weak point there is not! All songs dig in lousy and induce normal every Metalhead to headbang.
Metallica like invented thrash / speed metal have yet Slayer brought definitely the brutality of the genre became known in and through which many of today's death and black metal bands left leg influence. The gloomy, bitter indeed should find only on the second album by the band's place, but this first-time bölzte all gone and is still in the field Metal absolute must for!
