After the horrific murder that looks like a frightening staging, Karl Gruber is plagued by nightmares and examined the expert Prof. Dr. Sigmund Freud on to get this case in the hope of him help in clarifying. And he gets even. However Freud accompanies the policemen not personally at the interviews in the course of the investigation, but sends his daughter Anna.
Completely renouncing a parent narrator, the focus of the production is clearly on the dialogues. Not only Karl Gruber lands on Freud's couch and exchanges views with those on psychological questions, and another patient is in the form of interludes repeatedly mention.
This alone requires a more quiet style, which is dominated by a little more demanding, but by no means completely verkopften and plated dialogues.
The alternation between active and passive investigation analysis is balanced enough that would be established in spite of the quiet tone of boredom. Although it is not from the outset extremely exciting to the point, but you can towards the end to achieve a significant increase.
An interesting element are the repeatedly interspersed, short integration of IT and superego talking to Freud 'this leaves the staging no doubt arise, that in a sense moves here in Freud's mind.
A special attraction of this new series is due to the main cast with Hanspeter Hallwachs as Freud, Andreas Fröhlich as Gruber and Felicitas Woll as Anna Freud. Especially of Cheerful and Hallwachs you get an excellent theatrical presentation offered - just as it is hoped that in advance. And the rest of the cast fits under the experienced direction of Simon Bertling and Christian Hagitte beautifully in this body of work.
This does also the gloomy or slightly melancholic and depressive musical accompaniment and -untermalung. Given the quality of this coming to use orchestral music shows once again how much of atmosphere you can create so. In this area STYLE always could actually play off their strengths fully.
Finally, there is a scientific commentary by Dr. Salwa Meier, the very special and so for the normal audience probably is not too exciting though.
Conclusion: The first episode of this new series before falling from very to my liking. Although it maintains a fairly quiet style, but it is allowed to forward to a thoughtful dialogue book. The element of psychoanalysis here fits perfectly with the criminal case together without it would seem awkward or fake. The outstanding actor and the great musical background do the rest.
