Everything is huge in Max Reger: all of the work as a whole and in its individuality. Caught between an idolized past (Bach) and weight of modernity, to Reger played the card of abundance, of eclecticism. Magnificent orchestrator, the compositions that we know him and very partially shown in this box, however exceeding three hours, surprising for their developments that seem to want to ever end. The four symphonic poems after Böcklin are real masterpieces. Listening, one can find an amazing link between the author still unknown on this side of the Rhine and his interpreter. Indeed, this prolixity befitting like a glove Leif Segerstam, a sort of giant with North Brahmsian gaits which remains to this day the author had composed over symphony in the history of music (265 to date)! Good booklet in French and excellent sound recording.
