Guardians lost Cities Volume 1 (Paperback)

Customer Review

Jai liked beauuuuucoup Guardians of Lost Cities, I had a big heart stroke unexpected for this novel that I really brought everything I was looking for children's literature and fantasy that I could no longer find for years. The author gives us a gripping plot, very lovable characters and a story full of emotions with a lot of sad moments, all very well balanced and beautifully written.

I finally found what I was missing since the end of Harry Potter. Note that I'm not going to make a comparison, history of JK Rowling being what it is, it would be simplistic to compare the two sagas. But I think he was there much chance that Harry Potter readers find their happiness from reading Guardians of the Lost Cities. The characters are detailed, nuanced, nobody is too perfect or inherently bad. There is a real work about the history of each, which gives a depth to the relationships that develop and therefore to the whole story. All the secondary characters are interesting, at least as much as the main character. We really want to know more about them and to continue to monitor, and the quality of dialogues makes it really real ... I do not know how to explain. There is the same spirit of community that really found in the universe that JKR that is fun to read about each of the characters, and I appreciated that.

And of course, Sophie is a great main character, intelligent, kind and certainly not naive or erased. Early in the novel, we discover a young girl well quun endearing little clueless. And because she was twelve, an extraordinary photographic memory, her effort is poised to pass the tray. She is bored and can not fit in a class where we see her as a little monster. This is also how she sees herself, she who hears the thoughts of people around her since she was five. It therefore feels very lonely until she meets Fitz, a young man of fifteen years that seems to push its power and above all, that has him too. He soon learns the truth. It is not human and it must follow.

She then discovers a new world and we with it, leaving her old life behind her. What i liked the most, this is that the author does not fall into the recurring cliché lon found in all children's novels: The wicked parents, dead or absent, which greatly facilitate the start in the adventure of the hero. No, here Sophie saw a real family life in which she is happy and his forced departure was heartbreaking. Heroine na twelve years and must leave his parents to live in a world where it does not know anything or anyone with a family that is not his. This choice of the author allows him to offer us some very touching moments that put Mount to tears several times (not I lie, i cried like a child). I did not expect to be so moved by the story of Sophie and her family docking, jen am sure that, in more than one émouvra.

Main plot is fed smoothly, especially for this volume to present the world in which Sophie will evolve. And what a world! Jai cringed when reading the word "elf" but soon i accepted the idea as it is presented by the author. And above all, I have loved school where Sophie will follow all lessons more interesting one than the other. Jai also appreciated that Sophie has difficulties, what is not the best in all she undertakes, even if it has some unique qualities that make it a very interesting character. She also struggles to adapt to his new family life, the lifestyle of its people dadoption at the attitude of some who are not happy what their universe has joined Including the little sympathetic teachers who do not help him right.

You Laurez understood, I have enjoyed immersing myself in this new world, well structured, credible and very interesting. Faultless from the author, who manages the feat of presenting a story featuring a school of magic without falling into cliché or already seen, and above all, getting to stand out from the inevitable saga of the genre. Moreover, the style of the author (or translation) is very nice, accessible without being childish. At eight, nine years, but also for adults lacking démerveillement, magic and of a nice history of the genre.

The cover, similar to the original version, is very successful and in line with the novel. The book size and paper quality are the same as for the other novels of the publishing house Lumen, who didnt have nothing to prove, and Mount amply satisfied. Even in appearance, I do not find fault with Guardians of Lost Cities!

I can not wait to have a result in hand, which I hope will confirm my heart for this saga which I think will become a must! I would also not surprised that it is adapted to the cinema, given the very graphic universe it presents. And I would love to go see it, too. Feel free to get you, whatever your age, the adventure of the Guardians of the Lost Cities!
