Do not let his Nobel Prize put you off, this guy's quite a character. We Should All be so brave as to follow our inner voice and: 1) try Things That are decidedly outside our area of expertise 2) expose the illogic of the system That would attempt to control us 3) suppress our need to 'do', and spend time observing and analyzing the world we live in 4) Never ignore That Which we think is counterintuitive and 5) giving our time pursuing happiness, as well as knowledge. I do not read many books (esp. Novels), and this book's short story collection format suited me fine. I laughed heartily many times at the way this academic chose to deal with all of life's less-than-academic components. The very few times he had an aside about the nuts and bolts of physics or math, he lost me Quickly, but did did not spoil my overall enjoyment of the story, nor of the book. Anybody who is sorry They missed the era of beatniks and bohemian living is sure to get a kick out of some of his choices and experiences. (This is an Amazon.com at the university-student review.)
