There are at YSE some series that offer a bit of everything and others who follow a more or less clear stylistic line. "Goa Trance" is part of the second kind: What is offered here, could be described as full-on psychedelic. That's not for purists who like a repetitive, minimalist and techno approach and also the lovers of cozy Psytrance in style of 'Goa Beach "could be turned into something. In contrast, ground-Psy disciples will dismiss the series as too commercial and the proponents of true Goan trance will point out that the whole thing has to do with Goa in the original sense only slightly.
"Goa Trance" is more suitable for home listeners, the diverse influences from related genres (Tribal, Tech, World, Ambient), analogue colored sounds and rich effect, more complex tracks with plenty of buildups & breaks and Twists & Turns appreciate.
Each compilation stands or falls logically with the selection and here DJ Rocket has demonstrated on "Goa Trance Vol.2" a wonderful knack. I have seldom heard so many absolute killer numbers on a 2CD compilation. On pure filler one waits in vain, though towards the end of the two CDs a very slight decline was recorded. It is amazing that in addition to well-known names and freshly established many Shooting Stars (the time of publication) new Acts are also found on this sampler.
The pieces move mainly in the mid to upper Beats Per Minute range of trance spectrum and are partially very percussive. Despite the frequent twists there are enough hypnotically repetitive stretches that make it clear why this music "trance" is called. Sound effects and sampler are plenty to be handled with great sensitivity. Here are no knobs handle at work, but innovative specialists who have to have a concept and a story behind her thoughtful compositions.
Even more amazing is that the various tracks atmospheric, sound and dramatic match seamlessly. DJ Rocket bewiest here an almost magical sense of a coherent compilation of all of a piece.
From my personal perspective, this is one of the highlights in the catalog YSE I would strike quickly before the biplane is deleted and is then probably get hold of only about nightmarish rates.
