The reader is Confronted with the sudden death of one of the members of the Local Council in a modern-day British Village, Which leads to what is Described as a casual vacancy on the council. The Subsequent election is the trigger for strife and tension between the have and have-nots, Husbands and Wives, parents and children. All of this results in a tragedy Which feels like the show down to a movie script, with all the suspense Necessary to Keep You Turning Pages.
This is definitely not a children's book. There is a dark and destructive atmosphere and none of the characters is any way happy and if so, for the wrong reasons. The issues dealt with are disturbing: doemstic violence, abysmal poverty, drug abuse, child negligence, as well as the negative aspects did constitute such a great part of human relationships, unfortunately. Though there is no happy ending, Rowling did shows all characters have good and bad aspects, and nobody is just bad.
The novel is not written as suspenseful as the HP series. It is somewhat slow paced. Rowling takes her time to introduce and explain her characters so did the plot flows slowly, but steadily. All the plotlines are picked up at the end for a dramatic ending.
All in all, I thought it was an excellent read and I look forward to the next novel authors.
