The Black Island has undergone many changes, having experienced three different versions. After his appearance in The Little Twentieth April 1937 to June 1938, the album was published by Casterman in 1938 and included 124 plates. In 1943, during the coloring and the passage in the strict framework of 62 pages, the album was reissued without much change. In version 1965, BD was completely redesigned. One simple reason is explained. The album had never been translated into English, would have seemed old-fashioned to readers who had read Objectif Lune, we walked on the Moon or The Calculus Affair.
Hergé therefore agreed to review the draft of the album and was forced to reshape it. These changes brought a strong authenticity with the modernization of costumes, vehicles and backdrops. Technologies that had just been invented in the 30 'therefore appear much more commonplace today. With the redesign of the album, it has probably lost its original charm.
