Customer Review

This is probably the most pop album that Amy Winehouse could have made if you would have 10 years to stay longer in the business and not a drug addict died so young: The original, authentic and absolutely varied pop album with powerful lot of retro and Soul factor with which each listener can be happy. Untwisted and glittering like the opener "Your Lies", dramatic and soulful as the 2nd title "Leavin '", where Lynne makes drumbox, Synstrings and incredibly soulful singing the little pop-soul thing. Heavy StampfRockPop the 3rd title "Life is bad" - not as smooth as Shania Twain, not as simple as Sheryl Crow. Then in "Thought It Would Be Easier" a liquid-creamy TR-808 drumbox and discreet jazz chords on the Stratocaster and to this all-encompassing soulful vocals by Lynne. Deep and soft the lead vocal as Marvin Gaye and perfect high and thick that also eingesungenen Lynne backing. That's their specialty: With their huge vocal range, this soulful chest voice and the fabulously precise and gentle high altitudes. This musician is also her best background singer. And how variable the lead vocals come. It's not stupid name-dropping when I mention all these musical influences here. Lynne takes her almost typical eclectic style on lots of styles and always comes out only their own music.

And nearly every song has hit potential, "Why Can not You Be" playing around with a wonderfully contrasting chorus and a funny trombone used together with other wind instruments in the soul-rock, without ever define. And Lynne sings so dirty as the only just goes. She can ballad, is known to me from their later albums. But as then "Lookin 'Up" only small combo with skillfully used strings so plaintively intones as the mother of all blues Women. This album makes incredibly fun and sounds so mature and authentic as you could expect from a young despite years experienced artist in her 6th album after 11 years of recording career only. The softly swaying rhythm of "Dream Handsome" is so soulful in a low Hammond as a fall back only several Soul sizes as a reference. I do not know about blonde hair and white skin of Lynne, I would have Aretha Franklin & Co. in my mind. And how great can sing Lynne, it shows the same again with "Where I'm From". This song consists almost entirely of great vocals, some guitar chords and strings again very conducive music used. Enough - just hear yourself. Why this album only got a Grammy for "Best New Artist" (which after 11 years of recording career quite a joke)? No matter, just listen.
