This time sounds "alien" again very "Hollywood Typical". That does not necessarily mean that this soundtrack is absolutely worse than the first three parts. The "Main Title" is Ripley's theme and Frizzel wonderfully managed and has ever a good start. One of the reviews here have described, that the music is more attuned to Ripley's character and that is true: "Call Finds Ripley" and "Ripley Meets Her Clones" are the best examples, where their topic is very skillfully uses and varieert. Although this motif is simple in appearance, but very effective, because it allows the listener the impression that something is wrong.
The quiet passages are here but something rarer than its predecessors because of action by the composer, this time has not saved! One of the best cues is "They swim" with a great orchestration and a great dynamics in the music.
If you have the images of the film in my head, the music works even better (as opposed to the third score, where the music alone worked perfectly). Especially the scene of "The Battle With The Newborn": Even without the music is this place one of the most brutal in the entire "Alien" series, but by the gruesome (good!) Sounds at the end, it creates a composer, although produce typical, yet effective and disturbing Scoreuntermahlung for events. And that's the reason why me this score like so much, although it is very different to its predecessors: Especially in the fast and action-driven sequences, it creates Frizzel the orchestra to flex correctly crazy and provides energetic pieces that listeners the grab and not let go, at least I feel so while listening ...
With 45 minutes unfortunately you only get part of the overall score, based on the good pieces can cope with the but. "Alien Resurrection" lives less by the atmosphere, but focuses more on the onscreen action.
It's very hard all four scores to compare now, every composer has his own thing and always delivered an original work, which I also like, because so every movie has its own character. But that is only subjectively ... Fact: The Quadrilogy of "Alien" has wonderful horror music from all sectors and is for fans of good quality soundtrack to recommend absolutely!
