1. haptics
In this point there is nothing to complain about. The lens is an excellent workmanship, nothing wobbles or rattles. The zoom ring is running full and not too easy, the focus ring as well. Even moving the focus ring to switch from autofocus to manual focus, works very well. General makes the Tokina a very solid and durable impression. The counter / lens hood snaps firmly and you have no fear, they have to lose.
2. sharpness / resolution
On this point I can not report anything negative. On my Nikon D7000 sharpness is absolutely fantastic and in terms of resolution, I am very satisfied. On these two points, it is my old Sigma 10-20 f / 4-5.6 EX DC HSM vastly superior. Even at the edges and in the corners of my copy is still very sharp and I can make no resolution deficiencies. It is astonishing that the sharpness is best at Offenlende and to f / 4 remains constantly high. On further stopping down the sharpness decreases slowly, but is still higher than it is at the Sigma ever at f / 11.
3. Autofocus
Autofocus is fast and not always accurate, especially when it is a bit dark, but he errs very back and forth. He is also a bit noisy for an ultrasonic motor. For landscape photography he is not sufficient for night shots. For pictures in dark places, the manual focus is preferable.
4. Flares / ghosting
Here comes the great weakness of the Tokina AT-X 116 PRO DX II Although the new compensation should reduce Flareanfälligkeit compared to the first variant of this lens., Yet it is still extremely pronounced. Backlit subjects are virtually impossible without flares and ghosting! At f / 2.8, they are still quite presentable and creative use, it appears, however, from further the flares extremely ugly and also the ghosting more pronounced. This can hardly be correct in hindsight and restrict the capabilities of the lens being evil one.
5. Chromatic aberration
On this point, the Tokina suggests quite bravely. There appear slight color fringes that are easily correctable, however.
6. Bokeh
This point is at an UWW eingentlich nonsense, I bring him because of the relatively large maximum aperture of f / 2.8 at anyway. The blur is quite handsome and gentle at maximum aperture. So it is possible the exemption of Tokina potential use to have no fear of an ugly background. However, the point Bokeh is not flowing into my overall rating.
Conclusion
I am zwiegespaltener opinion about the lens. On the one hand it is extremely sharp and excellent for use primarily for Milky Way photos, also landscapes copes very well. On the other hand Flareanfäligkeit is so extreme that it is barely usable in situations with backlight sources. A strong buy recommendation I can not pronounce, even if I have kept the Tokina therefore. For 540 it is quite worth considering for the time required in Germany more than 700 I would not recommend it.
