Since I have it, it's my second favorite piano CD (besides the tableau Etudes by Rachmaninov with Hélène Grimaud). This plate is "simple" only at first glance. It is brilliant. I know of no second jazzy plate on which the pianist again and again the same tune as easily trickles through his fingers to reveal a different nuance of her beauty every time. There are on this record no repetitions, only variations. Keith Jarret (and that's why I love the Melodies at night) brings the listener from the speed of everyday life, in which he wraps the simplest melodies in the most colorful harmonies. The theme of each song returns again and again, again and again broken, always re-clad, with each pass through Keith's imagination more beautiful, delicate, subtle. While Mr. Jarret example in Köln Concert (the fans will forgive me!)
