With Nightingale hardly comparable, and yet succeeded: Frittenbude are back!

First of all I want to say that I have the records consulted only once. My turntable is no longer the newest, the pickup is worn and rushes. I can therefore say anything about the sound quality of the record. The disk I actually just bought in order to hang on the wall, because I have the album as MP3 download.

So you're back: Frittenbude had won with her first album "Nightingale" especially in indie and electro punk scene recognition. Following the release of single "Groundhog Day", many of the traditional fans were a little disappointed. Also, I was a little taken aback: That sounded so not according to what you were used by "Nightingale" and live performances by Frittenbude.
So I was a little skeptical when (unfortunately, from me for unknown reasons, 3 days late) pre-ordered the album finally landed on the turntable.

But the skepticism was gone quickly. The A-side (tracks 1-3) convinced me immediately. While a lot has happened since the nightingale sound. But the right in the direction.
While the opener "onychectomy" is for about half of the intro, is nevertheless dance bar and well audible even outside the dancefloor. The second title "doomsday predictions" it then goes on firstonce quiet. Here the focus is a little more on the text. The third, entitled "Shame jewelry" is a tribute to the band's fans. The text is somewhat reminiscent of "Somehow, I love the" from the previous album and is also presented similar. Here the pace is somewhat lower than the supposed model.

The B-side (tracks 4-7) gave my enthusiasm then firstonce a small damper. "And Groundhog Day" has a surprisingly well-developed for Frittenbude text, (whoever "At least in 1000 years" knows, knows what I mean) and musically there is nothing wrong. Only drawback: to dance, it is less suitable. "Whether it is enough to find" is clearly very critical of society in the text. The is also fortunately made unusually good. Merely affects the musical side a bit lame and unimaginative. The next song, "The Wind" is lyrically a windbag: A statement in vain. But that is not necessary. The song is noticeably trimmed to danceable, and that's a good thing after the two predecessors had their attention focused on so rather the message of social criticism. The fourth title of the page, the seventh overall, "The Theory of Flight," was and still is for me still a little disappointing. Although the track is well danceable, but the text remains very monotonous and not very exciting. He is more melancholy and fits so in my opinion less dance.

Page C makes all but melancholy up for it. The very first title, "Fetter as Yellow", is actually fat sound to fat beats and clever lyrics texted. The song gets to the heart of what many young people, but also adults, to Germany's policy does not fit. At the same time he asks: "walking on the street and asks for what is yours," and wants to call as the Politikverdrossenen back to activity. One of the highlights of the album. "Now is the moment" is the next song. Although it remains unclear what really is the moment, but the song remains overall very demanding. Not necessarily party music but rather for it suitable again coming down. "2 + 4 = 0", seen by some fans as the best tracks on the album, disappointed with this expectation by no means. I would not say the best title, but one of the best well. Again, the mood in the text is melancholy, this time it is but also supported by the melody. The eponymous song "fool's gold" includes page C from. Electric sound at its best, with no claim to lyrical finesse: fool's gold remains the only sung word.

Now to the last page: The first title, "bubble" Unfortunately, both musically and lyrically not very original. Nevertheless, the story being told is very nice to hear. The penultimate track of the album, "A man runs," brings out again what there rauszuholen: The text offers variety, both the rest of the album, as well as in itself is interesting. While "And Groundhog Day" in the everlasting equality of everyday life is denounced, it says in this title "The only thing that remains constant is change". The last song, "pictures with Cat" is the biggest disappointment of the album for me. Although the story told is beautiful, and the musical interpretation is appropriate. But unfortunately, the song is much too long. Already about half way through the songs one longs for the end. This in turn is disappointing: It remains open, though one has yet so much longed for a happy ending. Also annoying: All the time his own label has been praised and lauded, even the band itself appears in the text. Self-praise does not smell ever, in this case, it is clearly too much of a good thing.

The bottom line remains to say: Those looking for a second "Nightingale", which will be bitterly disappointed. Musically, the band has yet far removed from the beginnings. That, however, not for the worse, on the contrary: While Nightingale is not a single song that would be appropriate at a concert for a breather, fool's gold supplies several. The quality of the live performances is expected to increase due to the greater variety and diversity. Also Lyrically Frittenbude has much evolved. On nightingale most texts sounded even after slapstick and were poorly rhymed. On Katzengold although there is every now and then a small mistake or logical leaps. But overall is a tremendous advancement determine.

4 stars definitely earned the album in my opinion. And because it dazugab in the Limited Edition also a CD with remixes, a poster and a sticker, there are five of mine.
