Still Live (Audio CD)

Customer Review

After solid, but sometimes a bit "well-behaved" sounding album "Standards Live" is "Still Live", recorded at a concert in the Munich Philharmonic on the occasion of the Munich Piano summer 1986, when second live album of the trio already clearly contoured advised. The game of Three jazzmen works wonderfully mature (unlike, say, on the later released album "The Cure") and the pieces are wonderfully arranged. Jarrett's piano dominated the lines, but Gary Peacocks bass and drums by Jack DeJohnette can get involved very nice, so the music is absolutely harmonious. Of course there are here and there redundancies, as always with the rather low-risk, structurally consistent patterns of interpretation of the standards. Yet there is on "Still Live" outstanding passages and fantastic variants known pieces that cause this album is to be among the best of the trio.
"My Funny Valentine", the first piece is much softer interpreted as approximately "Up For It". A long piano intro invites bass and drums after some time with the accompaniment. Toll. "Autumn Leaves", however, is very earthy and raw. It takes a while to get other versions of this title from the ear and get involved in this rather harder, by a brilliant bass-driven version. "When I Fall In Love" is a bit anemic and not come close to the version of "Inside Out". In contrast, "The Song Is You" is a real gamble: Over 16 minutes uptempo beat, sometimes dynamic, sometimes orchestrated rather minimalist, alternating with solos. At the back but it is sometimes a bit tough.
"Come Rain Or Come Shine" and "Late Lament" are two intensive, cool numbers that beautifully reflect their perfect arrangements the character of the album. A long medley of "You And The Night And The Music" and "Someday My Prince Will Come" (with Jarrett compositions to conclude the first and as an intro of the second song) although has some sagging, but is overall very worth listening to and also demonstrates in many places the very intimate understanding of the three musicians for each other. Before "Remember Clifford" the album includes very relaxed, with "Billie's Bounce" may be jumped again. Not entirely convincing, this penultimate number.
Nevertheless, "Sill Live" a very good album of the trio of Keith Jarrett!
