Dead Space 2 [Platinum] (Video Game)

Customer Review

Isaac Clarke has really not easy. First he narrowly escapes the hell on the USG Ishimura, and then directly to wake up on the Sprawl again amidst countless Necromorphs. But he does not hesitate, equips and goes again on hunting monsters. And what he experienced on his trip everything corresponds exactly to what the common horror mutant Splatter fan looks most like.

All the same?

Basically, has not changed much compared to the first Dead Space. Most weapons are still present, abilities like Stasis and Kinesis have remained the same and also to the control, nothing has been done. But still the second part clearly feels differently. This is mainly due to the action, which turns out to be significantly different even in the predecessor. It is no longer psychologically driven by light games or sound effects in the madness, but gets the monster usually right in front of the nose set. At some point it cracks easily, and then all hell breaks loose. The atmosphere harms the but not a bit, here both games are indeed slightly different, but equivalent.

Also technically story and narrative, there are some changes. Isaac now speaks and meets on his way some other characters, creating a direct-told story is created. What remains are still the text and Audiologs that bring even more information about what happened and unknown characters. The setting is also largely similar, but the Sprawl's not like the Ishimura a mere industry spaceship, but also the habitat of a newly established civilization. Therefore, you find yourself repeatedly in the deserted ruins of a once idyllic world. And you have to really be an expert to recognize clear parallels to Bioshock here.

Somehow I know that but

Dead Space 2 is similar to Bioshock but very clearly not only in terms of game world. Many other small items come in two games for use. So the Kinese example already exists as a plasmid in Bioshock, and the harpoon gun from Dead Space 2 also existed under a different name and with a different appearance in Bioshock 2. And the idea with the Audiologs, parallel to the main story various other stories and imagine characters who came for the first time in Bioshock used. But that is not intended to be a reproach to Dead Space. The game elements were all super implemented, and the matter of the destroyed civilization works great both Bioshock, as well as Dead Space 2

In addition to the aforementioned harpoon gun are still the Detonatorminen and the viewfinder gun been added to weapon selection. These are also immediately become my favorite weapons, as they expand the gameplay to most fun elements. The viewfinder gun is simply extremely strong, but the harpoon gun has also even such clout that you can hurl weaker opponents through entire rooms and impale on the opposite wall. The Detonatorminen (which also already existed in Bioshock 2), however, are contact mines that give a blue beam of itself, which can detonate when it is interrupted. Particularly useful are those when you completely mined narrow paths and then only have to watch as the Necromorphs bring itself around the corner.

However, the different weapons and their tactics not only make a lot of fun, but have actually made sense. Dead Space 2 is anything but goofy Monstergeballer but calls from a certain difficulty wise practices and punishes the players accordingly if he just ran in blind in the opponents. Many rooms you will be when you first walk can not pass through, because you only have to internalize the different enemy types and their running paths located to use this then to find the perfect tactic. Likewise, you should always keep the ammo in mind, otherwise you gladly stands times without weapons, although countless Necromorphs come a knocking.

Can not you see me?

A small negative point, there are also, although this is only noticeable particularly attentive and adventurous players. While Dead Space 2 provides an excellent atmosphere in a believable world, this illusion is but partly disturbed by invisible borders. So I'm standing right in front of eg open door to a room where it teeming with Necromorphs. However, the mutants notice me until I make two steps forward and stood in the room, although they also before that could see me all the time. I would have but can not kill, when I was still in the previous room, because my shots apparently lose their effect when they fly over the threshold. Even more striking are the limits on the kinesis. I love to fight with objects that I verschieße by Kinesis, such as spears or explosive gas cylinders. Therefore I carry the stuff always eternally around with me, so I need less or even no ammunition for the next opponent. However, there are always places in the game world that can not happen with Kineseobjekten. If one does it but, they simply disappear, and you carry from one second to the other nothing more around with you.

There is a multiplayer mode, which is quite typical of its kind Finally. Dead Space is (at least for me) a pure single-player game, a multiplayer I never asked. It so happens that on the one hand, hardly anyone is online and the game on the other hand keeps very limited. Basically, the idea is not bad. A team of Necromorphs must People Team hinder to fulfill a specific mission objective. The only problem is that the Necromorphs are much weaker and can easily overwhelm a person only in the majority. But since you do not deny yourself the Online Game with any, and people are usually also at least two people on the road, the balance is limited. So to play as a human being makes already fun, but only because the Necromorphs are so good cannon fodder.

Conclusion

Dead Space 2 has my expectations more than exceeded. Even the first part is a great game, but feels a bit monotonous in the long run to. Here was powerful nachgeholfen in Part 2 and caused a lot more variety. Both the story with its believable characters, as well as the excellent gameplay and varied settings keep motivation from beginning to end at 100% and give no reason for boredom. Thumbs up for one of the best games of this young year!
