Beautiful historical novel Youth

Pauline, bridesmaid department stores (Hardcover)

Customer Review

We are in the nineteenth century, under the 2nd Empire, and we follow the footsteps of a Norman Pauline young up to Paris with his two little sisters to find work.
As Denise in the famous "In bonheur des dames" of Zola, Pauline will work "A Parisian elegance" one of those famous department stores, symbols of luxury and wealth, but also of Paris at the time.

It is a beautiful learning novel, well researched, well written, with an endearing heroine.
Pauline through his many adventures we learn a lot about the time of life, work day, family, love ... all the ingredients are present for a nice historical novel for youth.
From 12 years.

Comment my daughter, 15, avid reader:
This is a rather romanticized book. For the youngest we realize enough of the time; one is affected by poverty in some neighborhoods and dazzled by the elegance of others. The decor is realistic even if the story of the girl is a little less (unlikely meeting).
It is a book that reads rather well, rather reserved to the college years (11-14). This first novel is the beginning of a series but every book can be read independently of others even if the characters are presented in the book of Pauline.
