The wave of Flemish book relates the story of a man Marinus de Boer native of Ostend to the late 17th to early 18th and that of his family. This is a common maritime historical novel for me. The author knows the world of the sea and navigation, but we can only regret the largesse he takes with history. It shows Ostend privateers who acted more like pirates since capturing ships of all nationalities. Or a privateer acts only wartime ... Ostend was Dutch, Spanish-Habsburg, French temporarily. But in the story, they capture English, the Dutch, the French, Spanish etc. Well if it's a good time to relax, but there are other maritime historical novels.
