The album "Surrender" by Jane Monheit seems to split their fans, as can be seen also on the (few) reviews. If the Jazz, is the Bossa Nova? I think not so much in these drawers. It's just a good album. Calculated commercial music I can not see here, especially those of Latin American music embossing (at least to my knowledge) currently (in 2007) is not so fashionable.

Their version of "Moon River" I find so great that I would solely already recommend the album. But the other pieces are beautiful. I also like the Spanish stuff. The friends of "pure jazz" have always had problems with the "Pop-Jazz" by Jane Monheit. This will have no pleasure in "Surrender". But anyone who likes quiet music somewhere between jazz, bossa nova and pop with a great voice should listen times this album absolutely.

By the way Jane Monheit has on the current tour, in December 2008 she gave several concerts in Germany, played a few pieces of "Surrender". Live it is clearly jazzy than on disk.
