Let's talk about music and protagonists of this album. Tom Keifer been waiting for over a decade on to release his first solo album.
At last he succeeded. After several vocal cord surgery - and the fear of losing his voice forever - Tom Keifer could finally burn his most personal songs on CD.
It in advance some comparisons to "Heartbreak" album of Cinderella were erected and I expected an album that would be associated with the primary acoustic and even country-corner. But here I was already at the entry SolidGround disabused. Here rocks the Tele, supported by tasteful licks and riffs and the necessary space in the sound to develop a subliminal Groove. The Paula decorated tasteful solos with his usual rock sound. And this principle runs (fortunately) through the whole album.
Who has been working more closely with Cinderella and Tom Keifer, knows that the roots have nothing to do with pure glam and hair metal. The fantastic "Long Cold Winter" album brings much of the tape to the point which a little acoustic and partly country-heavy failed at Heartbreak.
Very excited I was datauf how Tom's voice would sound. Have even in first reviews of "Shouting like old times" belongs .... Not like! If one did not know who sings there, you would not necessarily Tom Keifer. Certainly look here and there, the Signature-grater-Vibes easily, but none compared to frühren albums. And that's - just great - as with this album!
A little more restraint, bit more feeling and yet a lot of presence, without hiding his famous Roots. Especially this sound fits perfectly with Album & songs.
Really a positive PÜberraschung
I would like to describe Individual songs save me, because it does not really make sense (comparisons?)
I can only say that there is plenty of variety - from rockers to ballads, with Tubescreamer or Hall, loud or soft - here is everything.
I find it remarkable that the sound perfectly suited to the present time. Without concealing his origins, sounds reheated or stale nothing. That does not provide many of the old heroes!
Small drawback is the production. Sometimes Tom's voice wants something more present, especially when it comes in choruses or enter multiple instruments. A little more depth in the vocals would not hurt either. This one has better hingekriegt even at later Cinderella albums as Still Climbing. On the other hand, one can say it sounds just a little bit of organic ... :-)
Conclusion: Great, honest album, great songs (although it 2-3 songs -the drop something - could be less) and a singer / songwriter who sounds like a first-class rock band with roots in hard rock, blues, and sometimes a little Country Bonds (but not much!)
The perfect summer album with long-term warranty!
