But let's go one on each point in the game:
Character Creation:
As with any MMORPG you start with character creation. In the beginning you can only create characters Federation. Relatively early on her but also Klingons free as the second fraction.
Who Cryptic City of Heroes or Champions Online game, knows how much value Cryptic relies on the character creation. In Star Trek Online is no different. You can create you characters from the well-known races or invent your own alien race. It's damn much possible. Who designs an alien, will almost certainly find a player who looks exactly like yourself. As always, Cryptic, great!
Technology:
Technically the game at the top of the current MMOs is to settle. It is not realistic kept, but not completely in cartoon style. Here one should look at pictures. Space looks in my opinion better than in EVE. In EVE space is really somehow empty. In Star Trek, the individual space parts are never empty and differ in many respects. The music is of course directly from the series, which brings an immense boost to the atmosphere.
Gameplay:
Here Star Trek Online boasts the fact that it makes much different from the popular MMORPG, but does this also, however, not everything is perfect.
The final frontier in Star Trek Online are far from infinite. It's as good as anything instantiated. This has the advantage that almost always enough players are close by, but also ensures that there are too many are not equal. The game itself tried then but always members of a fleet (guild) and friends to pack as much as possible, which total of also works quite well.
Thus, you move often on a kind of space map where you can fly to the different stations and systems, which are also instanced again. In the systems but have a special technique to vorscheinen: In most systems, the missions take place. These missions make their own, provided that none of this makes also. Making them but someone then you will automatically play along with this. Thus their active play with other players without large group requests. Furthermore, but not a big team game is simple in the individual missions required, so you somehow play independently, but active in a group. This works very well.
In the ground battles have you then, if no other player is going NPCs like in Guild Wars Nightfall available. The ability to pause the game and put his NPCs bring new tactical possibilities and make the newly added difficulty to the more serious and a lot of sense.
Battles are in Star Trek Online is divided into space combat and ground combat. The space battles are enormous tactical. Here, it is sent to maneuver his ship, to distribute energy shield and so on. This is really cool! The ground combat are simple knit and play in principle as the popular MMOs. If you play but at higher levels of difficulty makes tactical approach quite reasonable, then what a little reminded me of the combat system of Knights of the Old Republic.
The bottom worlds are times acceptable and times simply top class. Space stations look always very similar (though not ugly) and you sometimes just storming desert planet (although the setting yes quite fit).
The missions are often randomly generated, so you almost have an inexhaustible supply of quests, which is clearly an advantage. The downside: In most cases, these missions play very similar.
Variety bring the episodes. These are longer quest lines, which are not randomly generated. Here I saw planets, which just looked only stunningly good! The story is also always been relatively good. Also, there are so-called Fleet Actions. This is to missions which are played with 20 players and most are heavily Storylasting. Imagine you're flying with 20 ships in a system and gets a task to destroy some Borg Kubuse. This is fun, this is great, this is atmospheric.
With the upcoming content patch, a new mission type is added. Previously there were only combat missions and research missions. Much of the Star Trek missing Kenner, true diplomacy missions. Here will be to start contact with new species to absorb and communicate within the meaning of federation with them. Here Trekkis can probably benefit also with background knowledge.
The system is already available on the test server and seems to be working well. Later will be added further diplomacy missions. This will also be required since you probably level up his reputation as a diplomat on their own. Definitely a step in the right direction.
Who knows Cryptic know that they are not known for extensive degree economies. This is the case also in Star Trek Online. Crafting and economy are present, work in their own way too, but are not as complex as in other games.
Still has Star Trek Online to a high complexity that comes through the bridge officers to pass. These are NPCs which equips itself and Levelt. Your assigns them to different skills, which have certain requirements on the vessel, each ship has and like certain places for certain classes. This is firstly complex and leads not only to the extensive character creation, the ship editor and the talent trees for a high degree of individualization, what I miss in many MMOs. Here white Cryptic easy as you score.
It should also mention that the Federation characters are rather designed for PvE and Klingons PvP faction. Initially lacking the Klingons still many quests to level up, but now something has been added to missions and episodes.
Furthermore, you can also enter your ship. To release only the bridge was passable but where you could not do anything. Meanwhile, several parts of the ship are accessible, where you can place additional collected trophies. Cryptic plans to the system but to further expand.
Also lacking for Releas to Endgame. Raid episodes have been added which significantly story-heavy and especially crisp as the other missions are. These were well received by the community. With the upcoming content patch also the level cap is again increased so that a large amount comes to new content.
In the area there are various PvP space combat and ground combat. The space battles are done brilliantly, the ground PvP in my opinion rather a nice gimmick.
Furthermore Cryptic plans starting next content patch every week a new Epidsode (remember the good, exciting quest lines) to publish. Thus, comes as much to the players.
The location was still not planned and was to release cruel. Meanwhile, most of it was isolated, if not all.
As a conclusion it can be said that Star Trek Online does something different from the other MMORPGs and therefore is certainly not for everyone. I like it very well. The patch cycle is very good and it often are added new content. For the current price, I would definitely access and test the month!
