I used to date an Android phone, with its features, I was quite satisfied. But with the ongoing updates of smartphone apps and the "appetite" of applications grew steadily to include additional privileges - and my confidence in the system decreased. A real alternative did not exist previously.
My phone - as I vostellte me - should of course the usual basic functions dominate, an "app-glut" I did not expect, most apps that I previously used on my Android Phone served the genre calls, e-mail, Internet (browser), yes, and a few office stuff.
The Jolla smartphone I have now for two weeks. After unpacking, I was pleasantly surprised by the hardware. The smartphone makes a stable impression, The back cover is made of polycarbonate and removable, that is to get in this way with the optional memory card, the SIM card and the battery, which is replaceable.
After switching on and configuring one has a cell phone with very liquid presentation in front of him. You change the available "screens" by "wiping" (push) up and down. First three screens are available; Lockscreen, overview screen with the possibly. Running apps (which are in this scaled-down representation in some cases can serve directly !!) and the screen with the entire app selection (Launcher). Everything runs smoothly and without jerking.
At first, it is of course quite a change if you previously used another system. But after a short time it is already used to this operation. I have operated in these 2 weeks my Android smartphone in parallel and then started herumzuwischen it ... Now I separate them.
Unlike other manufacturers Jolla leaves the purchaser the choice of which applications he wants to install - and which are not. as sold is almost nothing on it - very positive. Even the e-mail client is not already installed. The necessary Sailfish apps there are free and are just one click away: in Jolla Store.
At first I was then, however, at one point a little surprised - in a negative sense: The battery lasted not 24 hours, but right after the receipt of the smartphone and then a week later, there was a total of two updates of the Sailfish OS and thus was resolved the issue -. with me the battery lasts about 2 days now.
In AppStore Jolla there are currently a fairly reasonable number of apps, but also in other repositories in the network which can be found (such as a free version of What's app). An active community is hard at work to enlarge the offer - I currently lacks nothing.
In conclusion I can say that you can get along well with this smartphone, as long as one is not a "game kid" and always requires a selection of thousands of apps. If you then but missing one or the other Android app, it can also use an emulation program running under Sailfish - I have so far refrained from and this will also hold in the future, because I value open source software ,
