"A land of shadows" because the story takes place at the bottom of a valley so crushed by the cliffs that dominate the the sun sometimes difficult to make their way. Here live Laurel, young woman qu'affligée rejected because of a birthmark who pretends to be a witch and her brother Hank income trenches (one is in 1917) with one hand and less. Everything is dark in the existence of these two, but a third character in the person of Walter goes upstage their destiny .... The nature, silence, music come to bring against a checkpoint at the stupidity and immeasurable xenophobia and a boor lingered population.
Throughout the pages Ron Rash with talent inexorably up the pressure to take us on a last boulversante scene.
This novel is a result entirely consistent with his previous works all deserving to be read, my favorite after it being "Serena" a flamboyant fresco populated with unforgettable characters.
