My reasons were:
-It is with the iris ring backwards compatible with older analog cameras
-It slightly smaller (but minimally heavier) than the AF-S
-It has a larger working distance
-It has a focus limiter, who tells me: this far, you can still shoot freehand, including up to 1: 1, please use tripod.
-Needs no lens hood, because the front lens is located very deep in the housing
-no visible distortion
Visually still on the amount of time and with reasonable build quality, it is a real gem!
