As I came across the new ITX Mini-Barbe Bones. The words "a maximum of 65 Watt" for the CPU took me for the first time on me to inform intensively about the current generation of processors. So there is, as I learned, now Intel processors the i-Series with 65, 54, 45 and even 35 watts, which does not have the power restriction of mobile processors. Since my decision was made quickly and I decided on this Mini-Barebone with the best equipment that is possible here.
Here is my configuration:
- Barebone XH81V (there is a model with three video outputs, me sufficed, however, the existing two)
- Intel Core i7 4790T 4x2,7GHz, 45 Watt TDP - about 310 euros (there is a version with 65 watts for the same price, which also fits in here - more power, but also of higher power consumption and thus potentially more noise)
- 16GB Corsair Vengeance kit, DDR3L-1600 SO-DIMM CL9 (Attention, that's notebook memory - no ordinary bar) - ca 130 EUR
- Crucial SSD 512GB internal CT512MX100SSD1 - about 160 Euro
- 1000GB Seagate HDD ST1000LM024 8MB 2.5 '' SATA - as 2nd hard disk that fits namely in "piggyback" actually still in the housing clean. (Note: This requires an additional short internal SATA connector cable that does not lie in while screws are enough available, is different from the manual) - approximately 50 Euro
- LG GTB0N DVD-RW SATA burner (flat device as in notebooks built) - approximately 16 Euro (this occurs to me that my first CD-ROM drive has cost 4x Reading speed 20 years ago still 300 DM)
Cost of these high-end configuration (early March 2015 prices are now "thanks" of the euro decline slightly increased): 850 euros.
If I have not forgotten anything, unless it was of course a Windows8 license (necessarily take 64 bit!) -. Used from 30 Euro to get. Everything else is so available.
The assembly was relatively easy - it takes a normal number 2 Phillips and a tiny, for the burner. When installing the processor extreme caution! For the 2nd hard drive I had a short SATA cable from the package, but it also fits normal with 1/2 m length pure.
The place is not so scarce - the housing is still half filled with air, so it's taken care of good aeration. The two 60mm fans are on duty almost silently. The power supply is indeed a normal fanless laptop power supply, external.
The only sound now and then from the 2nd hard drive, but I have set so that they switch off after 5 minutes of inactivity, already comes. If it starts you can hear already, otherwise the PC is almost silent, at least during idling. Even under full load the fan noise is barely disturbing. I opted for the 45-watt processor, because I do not need more power and it came to a powerful, yet low-noise system to me. I have installed Windows 8.1 64-bit and the driver from the supplied CD - everything easily.
The burner is actually hidden behind the top flap, behind the bottom there are 4 USB ports (2x USB2, USB3 2x) and headphone and microphone jack). Unfortunately, the back is the housing NO USB3 socket who needs, must the more expensive option buy this barebones, which also has 3 video outputs. This back here has only 4 more USB2 ports, and among other things a DisplayPort and an HDMI output (seemed just right for my 29-inch 21: 9 monitor and the other 23-inch model).
I'm super happy with the little Power box and can only look down with pity on those who still :-) buy an old-fashioned Tower therefore from me: full purchase recommendation!
