- The printer must be able to duplex,
- It must be possible to print on his media
and because it had to be a new device anyway,
- Wi-Fi!
At the time of pre-order (beginning 10/2012) offered by Amazon only Canon multifunctional devices. This did not come into question because, inter alia, a scanner was already present. Thus, the website of Canon has been driven and ever looked what there is available on devices in the portfolio.
Hits!
The Pixma iP7250 has already been presented and in addition to the above points, it still had a decisive but important addition to:
- AirPrint! (To print with Apple's iPhone / iPad directly via WLAN can)
Since I in the last 8 years, both from well iP4000 and iP4700 and the scanner series from Canon was thrilled was the same for Amazon search for the device, found this and reserved directly!
On 10/11/2012 it was time - the iP7250 has been delivered!
In addition to those mentioned in the "product features" in the delivery contained printer, including the first equipment of all 5 cartridges and power cable as well as installation-Quick-Step Guide, CD / DVD holder for media pressure and software / driver CD (also online -Manual included) but also - unmentioned! - Canon USB cable attached! So it must not - as usual - even further "expensive" USB cable to buy.
After unpacking the first "small shock" - the device looks bulkier than the iP4700 - already in the depth of about 40cm significantly more extensive than the iP 4700 with nearly 29cm. In width with 45cm to 43cm, he has remained almost identical. In the height of about 13cm to 16cm but then something "more economical".
Build the next "small shock," you have to change as far as the paper source. Contrary to the previous models, there is no vertical paper tray back on the unit. The paper is always placed at the bottom of a cassette, but finally disappears completely with the front in the unit - which explains the increase in depth. The Canon Pixma iP7250 has the front two cassettes, the upper of the two small media - ATTENTION: if you take the cassette out and turns, one finds the engaged media-holder to print on CDs, for example, may want to.! - And the lower for UA A4 paper.
After installing the drivers is also why no vertical paper feed longer exists - appears to be the case "universal" and is intended for future Multifunkionsgeräte. Because the driver is, in addition to "printer" and "Scanner" on (which of course will be blank).
From manufacturers point of view of course, from personal, however ugly - because that is the "just add paper" cumbersome.
Back to installation - this is the "folder" (= installation instructions), even though one might be skeptical first time, super easy! Rarely, that I have taken a machine in operation, in which "just follow the steps" reality corresponded. Without difficulties or problems, the integration of two PCs (1 PC via WLAN and 1 PC per powerline adapters on the FRITZ! Box 7170) and a laptop via WLAN was possible. The driver automatically detects whether the input of a wireless key (this one is prudent to have on hand!) Is necessary and shows that in case of need to clearly and unambiguously, so that the installation / facility also less experienced users is possible. This is another way, more complicated, almost not documented this, HP shows with its HP LaserJet Professional P1102w - (lt. Manual) whipped 1.5 hours and various non-Jungendfreie curses were necessary, the "easy" set.
With driver installation is called. Canon Quick Menu installed that over 10 icons to access all major (z. B. system settings, print optimization) and unimportant (slideshow creation) allows simple and comfortable.
In the configuration of the iP7250 then already shows also the first criticism: you can configure the printer so that it will switch off automatically, eg after 15 minutes (or more), provided that no more jobs are available.. But this is not possible - the software even know clearly indicate - (incl. Wireless) when the device via the network has been established. Here the unit must, if it is no longer required be switched off manually. Here Canon has clearly a need for improvement!
In the print quality of the iP7250 white again to points, as already the iP4700 - both in text printing as well as color and photo print show outstanding results. Text printing is almost laser printer quality. But even in sleep mode the printouts are very good. The range and the printing costs can not be judged by almost 1 week in operation. But the price of new cartridges show once again that a complete equipment (5 cartridges) almost as expensive (about 65 EUR) are as a new device (about 80 EUR). Remains to be seen and to be hoped that quickly compatible cartridges from other manufacturers come to market!
The downside, and thus a further point of criticism is the noise level: it is (felt) slightly higher than the iP4700. In particular, because you can configure the driver under "Silent settings" for example., When the printer is to be silent. In the test I - can make no change in the noise level - regardless of the setting. Add to this that seemingly every 2-3 print jobs is performed to clean the cartridge, which a) the print job "slow" and b) costs expensive ink. Despite an intensive search in the driver software, I've found no way to prevent this - this, too, Canon should finally rectify times!
Is beautifully achieved in that the paper system does not have to be constantly open. Start a print job automatically opens the printer, the paper plant! However, it should be ensured that there is nothing directly in front of the printer. ;-)
In summary - with no priority or additional weighting:
+ Good, understandable mounted & Setup Guide
+ USB cable included
+ Easy integration into wireless
+ Output tray opens automatically
+ Very good text and color printing (even in economy mode)
+ Very fast (even with the highest quality!)
+ Robust, but simple and nice design
- No vertical paper feed more
- Deeper, "chunkier" than predecessor
- Operating noise is higher than the old iP4700
- Seemingly on every 2nd-3rd Pressure Cleaning Cartridges
- In network operation (incl. Wireless) No power of the device
- Expensive original cartridges (as with almost all manufacturers)
Conclusion:
After nearly 1 week, I am very satisfied, and despite the above criticisms I do not regret buying! However, the configuration (auto power off), the operating noise and the cleaning costs the iP7250 total 1 star and therefore the highest rating!
