An album without a smile

Taxi (Remastered) (Audio CD)

Customer Review

There are a lot of photos of Bryan Ferry on the cover and in the booklet of this CD, and on none of them is even the slightest hint of a smile to be seen. Somewhere hidden is found then a little note with the simple words 'For My Mother Mary Ann Ferry, 1909 - 1991'.

TAXI 1993 is an album that carries a constant hint of sadness and depression in itself. And it's a wonderful, the complete works of Roxy Music legend totally underrated plate with nine carefully selected cover versions and a short self-written song at the very end.

Ferry's interpretation of the very common gecoverten classic "I Put A Spell On You" by Screamin 'Jay Hawkins is probably the best that I've ever heard.

Songs like "Will You Love Me Tomorrow" (The Shirelles) or "All Tomorrow's Parties" (The Velvet Underground & Nico) are for its elegant and decadent melting made like.

Total TAXI counts with its slightly melancholy atmosphere for me to Bryan Ferry's strongest solo works. Four and a half stars.
