those music lovers who lack of information or because precisely ikls only know the bestseller Karajan or the last Thielemann fashionable, this box will be welcome and they will see that baroque musicians did not invent anything regarding clarify the textures and make their energies to works that need (Toscanini, Reiner, Scherchen, Mengelberg); they will see the falsity of certain benefits presented too quickly as "immense" (the pub around Harnoncourt at its release), and plunge into the real tragic dimension contained in others (Furtwangler, Kleiber), etc.
That said, there is great absent here (but you can not put everything that's of course); just one regret: that the ninth, proposed in three versions including 2 Furtwangler -justifiées - was not only the ds version Toscanini, one of the few leaders who distinguished himself in this work, the extreme vivacity of his tempi and! the resumption of the scherzo, which gives a balance to the original symphony.
Those who want a romantic original approach though can turn to Kurt Sanderling (1980), the best in my opinion, fully digital, fully recorded and performed as an integral but difficult to find (in separate cd on amazon)
