The end of the past 2 years after the band's formation alternative-punk band Basement from rainy England dissolves. Leave them have the EP "Songs About The Weather", the album "I Wish I Could Stay Here" and the discussed new album "Colour My Kindness". The opener "Whole", the first of a total of 10 songs on the album, it becomes clear that lyrical, instrumental and a lot has changed. With lines like "Deep inside this hole I want to offer you my soul", the melancholy of the album will be opened to the listener. Where dominated in earlier works blast beats and fast guitar riffs, now sluggish, but driving guitars run through the songs, and the song draws and lives with a certain tragedy. "When I'm with you I do not wanna be with you", the first line of the second song "Covet" seamless continuation of this tragedy and underlines the prevailing mood of the album. Without that Basement lean too far out of the window, you will be placed in the penultimate decade and is found between Nirvana posters and Pixies albums. "Covet" -as the entire album does not act like a pathetic attempt "Grunge" wiederzubelebn, but rather as an analogous continuation and forms the foundation of the entire album. Where the first pieces still come to life, you approach with "Pine" and "Bad Apple" to "draft" of the album: the song "Breathe" which is sinking into lethargy. While "Pine" still celebrated by antagonism of lyrics and jazzy guitar a certain ironic gaiety, is "Breathe" slowly, slowly, at first drowsy, rears up briefly and is but yet again the case. BEYOND to be "Control" designed by dreamy, ghostly vocals and monotonous guitar parts one gets the impression that the band has played in a trance. Before closing the curtains, wake Basement and sum up with the less than 5 minutes long "Wish" the character of the album and bring elements of previous works, even at the end of the album breathe new life into a successful showdown.
"Colour My Kindness" shows a clear evolution of the band that the album seems more elaborate than earlier works. The influence of the Grunge Era can not be dismissed out of hand and can, together with the supposed monotony, deter listeners older releases. Whereas "Songs About The Weather" and "I Wish I Could Stay Here" have driven the listener, if one is simply indulge in the inertia in "Colour My Kindness" and listen to the sounds. A bitter aftertaste remains, considering that Basement have dissolved shortly after publication, but free after Cobain: the best "die" young.
