Brave heart in turbulent times

Valiant Hearts (Brave Heart) is a 2D point and click / puzzle adventure game from Ubisoft.
It deals with historical events from the 1st World War, which are experienced through five playable characters. Each of the character has special abilities that you must temporarily inserting cooperatively to solve problems in different sections. So the short version.

Atmosphere / sound / Story:

The nice thing about the game is its portrayal of the characters, the game world and their backgrounds, which lured out of simple puzzles many emotions. It's about political conflicts, friendship, love, suffering, death, the profit to moral concerns, such as the use of nerve gas or mere madness this troubled time. The German-speaking narrator does his job very well and also scattered dialogs have been implemented skillfully. Mostly, however, is represented much with onomatopoeia, speech bubbles and especially powerful imagery. The contemporary, drawn style of play that has been well combined.
A clear line between sadness, seriousness and humor is not always to be found. While this is understandable in times of war, but also at times not always comprehensible. The story itself is refreshingly different, moving and motivated to finish.
With overlays historical and collectible objects one also remains about the background to date.

The music in the game is designed very soulful and adapts to the respective moments. She's very piano-heavy and are the emotional being of the figures again aptly.

Gameplay:

Control goes mostly well out of hand, I even played with controllers. Unfortunately, I had temporarily minor bugs / dropouts, hanging in the game figures remained or planned events did not take place. Also all control commands were not always correctly identified. The tasks in the game and the levels are designed but varied. From Escalades, to slow passages, everything is represented. In particular, the driving level and the boss fights that I liked. The difficulty remains fair and can be difficult even for professionals.

Technology:

The style of the game is its strength, the camera work, unfortunately not always. Some acts Arnold Böcklin roughly drawn, that is but to get over. In detail, a great love there and the characters, especially the playable dog grows through its presentation quickly to the heart. The game runs smoothly and has superb graphics with some Blender nothing to do.

Conclusion:

Brave, courageous. That must be said. Such take up an issue as game times and implement with a lot of emotion. Narratively me has this game usually very moved and taken. The history of the people, which were inspired by actual war letters going to the heart. More courage in the puzzles and gameplay but could have been still in there.

In short, this game is a great proof that a small, low-priced, with its own style and different kind of bold narrative style / theme game, positive and thoughtful can also remain in the memory. Whoever comes out will be touched and may feel beating in his chest, the brave hearts at the end of this bitter time.
