The body of the Pen E-PL6 comes with a 14-42mm M.Zuiko lens, this is not the thin pancake lens, this is another Kit. In the box, a battery with an external charger, a video and a USB cable is included. In addition to the strap and a printed, multilingual guide and a software CD are included. On the CD you will find all the instructions and the program Olympus Viewer 3. There is also a small handle, which can be screwed onto the camera body. Last but not least puts Olympus also one the compact flash FL-LM1, including a small bag for the flash in. The flash has a guide number of 10 at a value of ISO 200. To lighten dark rooms of this enough.
The first impression of the camera is very positive. The body is made of metal, all controls sit where they suspected. Even those who have not previously worked with cameras from Olympus, will find their way very quickly with the switches.
The camera monitor can be folded out. Unlike other cameras, the 'Selfie position' of the display is on the camera, and not including, thus no longer comes one also with a possible stand in the way in which the camera is mounted! The display has a touch screen, which responds very well to my taps. The camera can also be triggered via the display. The resolution is very good and shot images are very clearly reproduced.
The mode dial is in addition to the automatic iAuto nor the modes P, A, S, M, and the nature and SCN. Behind ART hide different preferences as monochrome, pinhole camera and more. In the SCN setting you have access to settings such as sports, portrait and more. This setting can be adjusted to personal preference. The modes P, Q, S, M can also be controlled manually as with other cameras in the respective limits. M has full control!
Das14-42mm lens has a plastic housing, the housing of the lens thus feels not quite as high as that of the camera. Also, the bayonet of the lens is made of plastic. However, the lens is thereby also very light, which in turn affects the overall weight of just 400 grams.
As Olympus newbie I did myself a little hard with the camera software menu, after a week of use I find myself but get lost safer, which is also due to the some functions directly accessible via the touch screen.
The ISO range of the Pen E-PL6 ranges from low, which corresponds to 100, up to 25600. In direct comparison to the Nikon 1 V2 the noise performance of the Olympus camera a lot better. At ISO values from 640 are significant differences, see especially in dark situations.
In general, the image quality of the camera is impressive. The color rendering is very natural in the factory setting. If one tries with the camera different settings, then you can produce really good pictures with the camera. The pre-set programs and filters help to come fast to great results.
With 14 '42mm lens you will be happy with security in the first period. Very nice is that there are now for the Micro Four Thirds standard a good selection of lenses, which expand the possibilities of the Olympus Pen E-PL6 yet.
If you want to change from a compact camera to a system with interchangeable lenses, but the DSLR is too large, will be happy with the Olympus Pen E-PL6 well.
Very good camera!
